2006 Scholarship Applications Made Available

Scholarship applications are now available through the guidance counselor's office or through the scholarship's web site at www.kirkinteractive.com/christy/scholar.html. This year's scholarship deadline is March 31s. The recipient will be named at the Harlan County Scholarship Banquet in May.   

Seth Haywood Named First Male Recipient of Scholarship

On Harlan High's Senior Day, Jim Kirk, Chairman of the Foundation, presented Seth Haywood with a $1,000 scholarship. Seth will attend Alice Lyold College. Kirk said, "Seth really emboldens the type of character we look for in a recipient."

Scholarship Foundation Launches Web Site

Christina Owens Scholarship Information can now be found on the world wide web.  The Foundation's mission is to "remember Christy and to inspire others".  An online presence can help the Foundation do just that by providing a biography of Christy Owens, scholarship information, Foundation management policies, current scholarship news, past award winner biographies, and donation and donor information.  The address is www.kirkinteractive.com/christy.   

Foundation Announces Laura Adkisson as Its 3rd Christina Owens Scholar
May 4, 2000

Jim Kirk, Foundation chairman, and Dan Lee, president, presented Laura Adkisson with a $1,000 scholarship at the Harlan County Community Scholarship Banquet at Southeast Community College on May 4th, 2000.  The scholarship selection committee, an anonymous panel, chose Miss Adkisson from a pool of applicants prior to the Banquet.  Kirk said, "the scholarship looks for individuals who are well-rounded and have a genuine concern for others...Laura exemplifies such characteristics".  Miss Adkisson plans on attending Oklahoma Baptist University and study cross-cultural ministry.  This marks the third scholarship presented by the Foundation.

Foundation Hits the $10,000 Mark

After a little over 3 years in existence, the Christina Owens Scholarship Foundation received its $10,000 dollar in donations on April 3, 2000.  The Foundation is proud of this achievement as it marks the halfway mark on its goal to raise $20,000 toward an endowment goal.  Individuals in the community have made this amount possible.  The Foundation commits to a conservative investment policy and low operating expenses so that a large majority of gifts will be spent on scholarships and on the endowment leading toward scholarships for years to come.
