Christina Michelle Owens (Christy) was a student at Harlan High School from 1984 to 1988 during which time she distinguished herself as a student, leader, member, and friend to all. Christy was a member of the Musettes, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Bible Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, French Club, Future Homemakers of America, Pep Club, and the Varsity Tennis Team. She received numerous honors, including selection by her classmates as Miss Freshman, Miss Sophomore, and freshman class secretary. Christy was also a Mountain Laurel Festival Princess Candidate, Co-Editor of the Yearbook, Key Club Sweetheart, and was voted "Best All Around" her senior year.

Christy, daughter of Steve and Edwina Hudson, went on to study to become a teacher, following the example of service set by two generations of her family before her. Upon completing her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1993, she accepted a position as a special education teacher at Harlan Elementary School. During her valuable one year as a teacher, she was head coach of the seventh and eighth grade cheerleadering team. Christy passed away in the summer of 1994, leaving us all with a shining example of what we should aspire to be.

Christy's strength of character, commitment to excellence and desire to serve others distinguish her as a role model for both her friends and those who never had the pleasure of knowing her. It is in this spirit that we honor her memory, her family's sacrifice, and her accomplishments while providing incentive for others to follow her path.
